🌤 This Morning’s Air in Okinawa and a Quiet Morning

Good morning.

This morning in Urasoe, it’s **22°C, sunny with light clouds**. It was muggy overnight—so much so that it was hard to sleep without a fan—but by morning, the air had suddenly turned refreshing. When I open the balcony and front doors, a gentle breeze flows in from the entrance, softly refreshing the air inside. While late April in Okinawa is when humidity starts to rise, the morning breeze is still light and pleasant.

Mom woke up slowly again this morning. Even though she kept saying, “I want to sleep, my body won’t move,” she got up after I called out to her a few times. After using the restroom, she had some tea, bread, and a banana. I bowed my head in prayer at Dad’s Buddhist altar, then had breakfast just as Mom started eating.

When our morning routine settles like this, the atmosphere in the house calms down too. These small rhythms of daily life make the start of the day feel gentle.

🛍 Off to “Sankimaru-A” at Mom’s Request

Mom had been asking me for a while to “take her shopping,” so when I asked where she wanted to go, she said **“Sankimaru-A”**.

Sankimaru-A is a clothing store in Okinawa where you can find everyday clothes, underwear, socks, and accessories at reasonable prices—it’s a very familiar shop for locals. They have a lot of clothing for seniors, and Mom shops there often.

Last weekend, the weather and my health weren’t great, so today should be a nice change of pace. The barometric pressure app shows it’s stable, so I should be able to move around slowly but energetically.

Whenever my mom says she wants to “go take a look,” I try to take her as much as possible. Just getting out of the house can really lift your spirits.

🍌 Off to the Farmers Market for Morning Bananas

After that, I plan to head to the farmers market to buy bananas, as usual.

However, it’s currently **Golden Week, when tourist numbers surge**. The Itoman Farmers Market gets particularly crowded—especially the fresh fish stalls, which are as packed as a food court—so I might skip it today.

Most likely, we’ll head to **Kugani Market in Haebaru**, which has a lot of locals and lets us shop at a leisurely pace on weekdays. It’s really peaceful there, and it suits my mom’s pace.

Of course, we’ll be flexible depending on how my mom is feeling.

🎪 Golden Week Event Information in Okinawa

Events will be held all over the prefecture during this year’s Golden Week as well (from the Chura Toku Golden Week Special).

🍺 Champuru Festival 2026 Spring

**Location: In front of Makishi Monorail Station, Sai-on Square (2-1-1 Asato, Naha City)**

Many of my acquaintances will be participating in this event, which features a **wide selection of craft beers** from both within and outside Okinawa Prefecture. There are plenty of food stalls, and the atmosphere is perfect for relaxing and enjoying yourself from the evening onward.

Last year, there were many families in attendance, and with a wide selection of soft drinks available, even those who don’t drink beer can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

🌺 Other Golden Week Events (Excerpt)

  • – Spring Market & Craft Fair
  • – Live music and stage events
  • – Special promotions at tourist attractions
  • – Local spring festivals

There are many events suitable for families or solo travelers, and this is the time when Okinawa’s characteristic liveliness returns.

It’s a refreshing morning here in Okinawa today. I plan to head out to Sanki Marue or the farmers’ market, keeping an eye on my mother’s health. While Golden Week brings crowds, I hope we can enjoy ourselves without overdoing it by choosing quiet local spots.

There are plenty of events happening throughout the prefecture. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

A foldable lightweight shopping cart is extremely helpful for market trips and everyday shopping. It reduces the strain on your arms and back, especially when carrying heavier items. Many models on Amazon US have smooth, quiet wheels and a sturdy frame, making them easy to push even at a slow pace. It’s a practical item for Golden Week outings, farmers’ market visits, and relaxed shopping days with family.
