☀️ A Rare Sunny Day in Urasoe, Okinawa, and My Mother’s Morning | A Small Moment of Peace Amid the Rainy Season

A beautiful May day

🌤 A Blue Sky Over Urasoe This Morning—the First in a Long Time

Good morning.

Okinawa is in the midst of the rainy season, but **this morning, Urasoe was blessed with a rare sunny spell**. The temperature was **around 24°C** this morning. While the humidity is high, there’s almost no wind, making for a refreshing morning with light, airy air.

Since it’s been raining nonstop, I appreciate this quiet blue sky more than ever.

🍳 Breakfast and Getting Creative Amid Rising Prices

As usual, I woke up early this morning and started the day by preparing breakfast.

Today’s menu is **rice, grilled salmon, and an omelet**. I wanted to use up the rice I cooked last night, so I emptied the rice cooker completely. With the recent price hikes on eggs and ham, the small daily decision of whether to have bread or rice really impacts our household budget.

At the supermarket, I’ve gotten into the habit of wandering around looking for discount stickers. Even amid rising prices, I’m doing my best to make do and prepare our daily meals.

👵 Mom’s Morning Routine and the 100-Year-Old Exercise Class

This morning, Mom responded with a single “No” when I called out, “Time to wake up!”

Still, she managed to get up. While I guided her to the bathroom, I prepared some tea, and once she settled down, we had breakfast.

I nodded along as Mom chatted about this and that while watching TV, and I got to work on cleaning up and doing laundry.

The forecast calls for sunny weather today, so I decided to run a load of laundry even though there wasn’t much to wash.

After that, Mom is heading to her **Century-Old Exercise** class for the first time in a while.

She’s been suffering from migraines due to the constant rain, so chatting with her neighbors should be a nice change of pace. She plans to spend the morning doing exercises and chatting in the meeting room on the first floor of the apartment building until noon.

🛒 Final Decision on the Air Conditioner This Afternoon

This afternoon, we’ll make the final decision after visiting several electronics stores over the past few days.

After discussing it, we decided to place a reservation for the **Fujitsu General ASC225** at Yamada Denki. The reviews aren’t bad, and it has more than enough capacity for my mother’s 6-tatami-mat room.

It might not be quite enough to cool two rooms, but I’m sure we can manage with some partitions and curtains.

Since I want to make full use of the balcony this time, I plan to have the outdoor unit installed on the upper part of the balcony using metal brackets.

However, I’ve been told that the disposal fee for the old air conditioner currently installed is **around 30,000 yen**, which is a bit of a concern.

This afternoon, I’ll stop by the bank and then head to Yamada Denki to negotiate the price; I’ll make a final decision after reviewing the total estimate. Even a small discount would be helpful, but it all depends on the store.

🌈 Cherishing a Break in the Rainy Season

Okinawa is still right in the middle of the rainy season.

That’s exactly why sunny days like today are truly precious. Whether it’s doing laundry, going out, or just shifting my mindset, I feel like everything becomes a little lighter with the help of the sun.

Golden Week is almost over.

I hope you all make the most of today’s blue skies and have a wonderful day.
