A Quiet Afternoon After the Wind Has Passed and My Mother’s Day Care Time

☀️ This Morning’s Weather in Urasoe

In Urasoe this morning, light rain lingered until dawn as a remnant of the typhoon’s passage, but by 9 a.m., clear skies had spread and the temperature rose to around 26°C. Humidity was high at around 90% in the morning, and the wind was still somewhat strong at around 10 m/s from the southwest. Japan Weather Association tenki.jp.

True to the post-typhoon weather, a bright, humid sky spread out, and the weather settled down as the afternoon progressed.

🍜 Making Lunch and Preparing for Mom’s Day Care

Today is the day Mom goes to day care. After writing my morning blog post, I prepared lunch while Mom was taking a shower.

I used the instant ramen I’d bought in case of a power outage from the typhoon and tweaked it a bit to make a nutritious meal.

I quickly stir-fried the vegetables left in the fridge in a wok, added water and dashi, and tossed in the noodles. Once they were tender, I poured in the soup, and finally cracked an egg into the pot and gave it a light stir.

I made this with the hope that the vegetables and egg would provide some extra nutrition, so she could get a good workout at day care.

🌀 Regaining Energy and a Change of Pace After the Typhoon

We’ve been cooped up at home for the past two days because of the typhoon, so my mom must be feeling a bit run down.

I thought that getting some exercise at the day care center and chatting a little with the staff and other participants would be a nice change of pace for her.

She’ll be home around 5:00 p.m. After that, she’ll probably take a short nap, and she should be able to sleep soundly tonight.

🧺 Laundry & Refresh Time

After dropping Mom off, I wondered what to do with the laundry I’d started this morning.

The wind was too strong to hang it outside, and it wasn’t until the afternoon that the sky finally cleared up after the typhoon passed.

Still, I’d missed the chance to hang it out, so I decided to head to the coin laundry at Kyozuka Sanei.

After putting the clothes in the dryer, I spent the waiting time at Starbucks drafting a blog post.

The store was busier than usual with many parents and children, likely because school was out.

Even so, the elementary school kids were quiet, and there was a calm atmosphere.

The dryer finished in 30 minutes. When I went to retrieve it, all the other dryers were already in use, and there was one mom waiting who had arrived after me. “I’ll take mine out right away, so please go ahead and use it,” I told her. She looked overwhelmed, carrying a huge pile of laundry after the typhoon. Families with small children must have a particularly hard time.

🛒 Shopping, heading home, and making dinner

After picking up the laundry, I did a little shopping and headed home.

My mother came back from day care and took a nap for about an hour.

During that time, I rinsed the rice and looked through the fridge to plan the dinner menu.

I ended up making a stir-fry similar to chop suey, using finely chopped green peppers, shredded bamboo shoots, and Okinawan fish cake.

I also made an egg salad, making a bit extra so I could use it in different dishes the next day.

After dinner, I loaded the dishwasher, helped my mother take her evening medication, took my own medicine, and called it a day.

Even amidst the hustle and bustle following the typhoon, it was a day filled with peaceful moments.
