✨ Quick Curry Made in Your Rice Cooker|Simultaneous Cooking Makes Dinner Prep a Breeze
Today, I’m sharing another time-saving recipe idea.
While stews often seem time-consuming, using your rice cooker lets you cook everything together “while you’re cooking rice”—making it incredibly easy.
It’s especially helpful on tired days or when you need to prioritize other chores.
You can likely make stews and similar dishes using the same method, so it opens up lots of possibilities for variation.
Ingredients and Prep

Rice: 2 cups
Carrot
Potato
Onion
Water
Granulated dashi stock
Place all vegetables in a heat-resistant plastic bag, add water and granulated dashi stock.
Lightly squeeze out air from the bag to stabilize it in the rice cooker and ensure even cooking.
Add the following two ingredients after cooking is complete:
- Bitter chocolate (for richness)
- Just a small piece of bitter chocolate is sufficient.
Be careful not to add too much, as it will make the dish overly sweet.
🔥 How to Make It
First, rinse the rice and set it in the rice cooker.
Place the heat-resistant bag with the vegetables directly on top of the rice. Set the timer so it’s ready for dinner.
About an hour later, when the rice is done, remove the bag.
The vegetables inside the bag will be thoroughly cooked and tender.
Next, transfer the vegetables to a pot, add curry roux, and adjust the seasoning.
I made it mild this time for my mom, who doesn’t like spicy food.
Finally, add a single piece of bitter chocolate. This significantly deepens the richness and creates a mellow flavor.
Simmer briefly to balance the taste, and it’s done.
Since the rice cooker handles the prep work, simmering in the pot takes just a few minutes.
Be careful when removing it as it will be hot.

🍽 Finished Result
The vegetables taken out of the rice cooker are perfectly tender without falling apart.
The potatoes especially are fluffy and pair wonderfully with the curry.
Transferring them to the pot and simmering briefly allows the roux to coat everything well, creating a result that doesn’t feel rushed. Since the rice is cooking simultaneously, plating everything together makes dinner ready in no time. The simmering step is already done in the rice cooker, so afterward, it’s mostly about adjusting the seasoning.
The minimal cleanup and easy post-meal tidying up are definite pluses.
Summary
Using the rice cooker is a real lifesaver—I can tackle other chores without worrying about simmering time.
Cooking the whole bag means fewer dishes, making it perfect for busy weeknight dinners.
It produces a deeply flavored curry even in a short time, so I’ll definitely be using this method again.
Next, I think I’ll try making stew.
