🌤️ Morning Scenery and Today’s Weather
Good morning.
This morning in Urasoe, a strong wind is blowing in from the east, creating a uniquely muggy atmosphere reminiscent of the days just before a typhoon approaches. According to the 9:00 AM weather data, the **temperature is 27°C, humidity is 82%, and wind speed is around 7 m/s**. When I open the balcony and front door just a little, a humid breeze sweeps through, stirring up the air inside the room all at once.
Outside the window, the cherry tree sways heavily, and the bamboo in the distance bends as it struggles to withstand the wind. Normally, I’d see birds flitting from branch to branch, but today they’re nowhere to be seen—it’s so quiet, it’s as if they’ve sensed the typhoon’s approach and taken shelter.
Soft sunlight occasionally filters through the slightly overcast sky, making for a morning filled with that restless atmosphere you get before a storm.
It’s a morning with a warm, strong breeze blowing.

🍩 My Mother’s Morning Routine and a Slight Return of Her Energy
For the past few days, my mother had been feeling unwell and complaining a lot, but this morning, when I called out, “Time to get up,” she got out of bed right away. For breakfast, she had her usual donut and tea. I had coffee and a donut, and after offering the same to my father at the family altar, I turned on the TV and let her eat slowly while watching the news.
Even though she said, “I still want to sleep,” she finished her meal properly, and taking her medicine and checking her blood pressure afterward went smoothly. She clearly seemed to be in better shape than she had been the past few days, and a bit of brightness had returned to her expression.
🧓 Off to the “Iki-Iki Health Club”
Today is Wednesday. It’s the day for the **“Iki-Iki Health Club”**, held in the meeting room on the first floor of our apartment building.
My mother had been complaining of a heavy head, but when I checked on her, she seemed fine, so
> “Why don’t you go? If it doesn’t work out, you can just come back,”
I said, and she immediately got ready to go.
Around 10:30, she left cheerfully, saying, “I’m running late!”
It’s reassuring because all she has to do is take the elevator down and walk down the hallway to the meeting room.
She knows many of the people there, and the time she spends chatting with them is an important opportunity for her to recharge.
📘 What is the “Iki-Iki Health Club”? (PDF Explanation)
This is a health promotion program for seniors run by Urasoe City.
Through **exercises, recreational activities, brain training, health checks, and conversation**, it provides a place where participants can move their bodies at a comfortable pace and socialize with friends.

Furthermore, as reported in QAB News, similar initiatives are being implemented in many municipalities across Okinawa Prefecture and are gaining attention as a way to
**encourage people to go out, build social connections, and prevent frailty**.

The reason my mother first started attending was that the manager of a convenience store that used to be in our apartment building recommended it to her. My mother is the type who can make friends with strangers right away, and whenever she comes home, she always tells me, “I had this conversation today.” It has now become a place she feels completely at home in.
🛒 Afternoon Plans and Coordinating with My Aunt
This afternoon, I’m planning to go shopping and to the post office, and after that, my aunt (my mother’s younger sister) is coming over to visit.
My aunt just called a little while ago and said,
“You’re in good spirits today. Well then, you can bring her over to my place on your way back.”
So, I’ve arranged to drop my mother off at my aunt’s house on the way back from shopping and have her stay there until the evening.
My aunt is in her 80s but is very energetic. However, her family has been telling her, “It’s about time you stopped driving,” so I plan to handle the drop-off and pick-up myself.
Okinawa is a car-dependent society, and in many areas, it’s inconvenient to go shopping or to the hospital without a car. However, our house is located along a national highway with a bus stop right nearby. There are plenty of buses heading both toward Naha and the central region, so I feel it’s a very convenient location.
My mother has been cooped up at home for the past few days and has been feeling stressed, so today should be a nice change of pace for her. Since a typhoon is forecast to approach this weekend, I hope she can get out and enjoy a change of scenery while she’s still able to.
✨ Summary
Today, despite the strong winds before the typhoon, it was a wonderful morning where my mother regained her energy for the first time in a while and was able to participate in the “Ikikari Health Club.” The time she spends talking with her friends is a vital source of energy for her and has a positive effect on her health.
In the afternoon, she’ll spend some relaxing time at my aunt’s house, making it a day for a change of pace and stress relief.
As we prepare for the weekend typhoon, I hope my mother’s health remains stable.
