☁️ The morning air and today’s weather
This morning in Urasoe, the sky is bright and cloudy, with thin clouds spreading across the entire sky.
Although the sunlight is weak, the cloud cover is uneven, so the sky is unsettled, with sunlight occasionally breaking through only to be immediately obscured again. The temperature is around 26°C, and humidity has been high since morning; stepping outside feels muggy enough to make you break out in a light sweat.
There is almost no wind, and it is so quiet that even the cherry trees aren’t swaying. There’s a “tension in the air” typical of the days before a typhoon, and I sense something approaching in the distance. Still, as of this morning, there’s little sign of rain, and the day began brighter than I expected.

🧺 A Perfect Day for Laundry Before the Typhoon
A typhoon is forecast for the weekend, but surprisingly, the weather forecast shows sunny skies through Saturday.
Thinking, “Today is my only chance,” I started the washing machine first thing in the morning. There was quite a bit of laundry, but it all fit in one load, so I added a little extra detergent for a thorough wash. Although the humidity is high, there’s little chance of rain, so if I hang it out to dry from now until Saturday evening, it should dry just fine.
Since the wind is light, I don’t have to worry about the laundry blowing away. Tackling household chores one by one before the typhoon arrives makes me feel a little lighter.
👵 My Mother’s Health and How She Was This Morning
My mother was feeling well this morning and got up easily when I called out to her.
She said, “I’m sleepy~” lightly, but her movements were steady, making for a reassuring morning. Since she’d been feeling unwell for several days last week, just seeing her wake up calmly like this puts my mind at ease.
After breakfast, she’s taking it easy in bed watching TV. Since this is a time of significant changes in atmospheric pressure, I plan to let her rest quietly in the morning without pushing herself. Her health tends to fluctuate when a typhoon approaches, so I really hope she can have as calm a day as possible today.
🌀 Typhoon Preparations for the Afternoon
This afternoon, I plan to go shopping to prepare for the typhoon.
Considering the possibility of a power outage, I’ll stock up on a little extra water, tea, and non-perishable foods like ramen. In Okinawa, shortages often occur a few days after a typhoon rather than immediately afterward, so it’s important to prepare early.
I plan to tidy up the balcony on Sunday, but
- – Bring in the laundry
- – Put away the hangers
- – Lower the clothesline to the ground
- – Close the curtains
I’d like to get these things done before the wind picks up.
It’s likely to be difficult to go out on Monday and Tuesday, so it’ll be a relief to have enough food to last those two days.
🏦 Today’s schedule is a bit busy
After hanging up the laundry, I’ll go to the bank and then straight to the grocery store.
There’s always so much to do before a typhoon hits, and before I know it, the day flies by in a flurry of activity. Still, if I get things done today, I should be able to spend the weekend in peace. The weather looks like it will hold out until the evening, so I plan to take care of necessary errands early.
