A Summer Morning in Urasoe, Okinawa | Hot Morning in Okinawa, Urasoe | Today’s Weather and Daily Life

日常の事
朝の風景

This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, the sky is sunny with occasional clouds. With temperatures around 29–30°C and humidity at 82%, the air is thick with that typical summer humidity. In Okinawa, right after the end of the rainy season, temperatures tend to rise early in the morning, and it’s a season marked by a mix of sudden showers and strong sunlight. Our daily rhythms are often influenced by the weather. Today, I’ll be documenting the morning weather in Urasoe, Okinawa, and my daily life as I experience the changing seasons.

☀️ The Morning Sky and Today’s Weather

This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, the sky was once again filled with that classic summer feel. Although there are quite a few clouds, white cumulus clouds towering high in the sky drift slowly by. The breeze is light, and the heat has been gently clinging to my skin since early morning.

According to the weather forecast, it’s expected to be sunny all day today. The chance of precipitation is low, making it perfect weather for airing out the futons. It’s a time when I’m a bit concerned about the typhoon’s path, but for now, it doesn’t seem like it will have a major impact on the main island of Okinawa, so the clear summer skies look set to continue for a while.

🌿 Morning Routine and Family Life

I woke up early this morning because of the heat. My mother hasn’t been feeling well lately and said she wanted some rice porridge, so I made it first thing in the morning. She took her time eating it, and I felt a little relieved to see her finish the whole bowl. After taking her medicine, she went back to sleep. I plan to let her rest peacefully until just before noon.

We don’t have any plans to go out today, so quiet time is flowing by inside the house. The summer sun in Okinawa is intense—so much so that going outside during the day can give you a headache. I usually wait until the evening to go shopping on foot, and when I take my mother with me, we drive to San-A with the air conditioning on. I can hear the cicadas chirping in the distance, and I can feel that summer in Urasoe has truly begun.

🍉 Farmers’ Market and Seasonal Foods

The other day, when I went to the Urasoe Farmers’ Market, mangoes were starting to appear on the shelves in small quantities. The prices are still a bit high—I got the impression they were about 1,000 yen more than what I usually pay. However, if it follows the usual pattern, prices should stabilize from the end of this month through next month, making them more affordable.

The vegetables at the market are also gradually shifting to summer varieties, but the selection isn’t quite “fully summer” yet; there’s a sense that the season is about to change. Supermarkets have launched a promotion for mangoes from Miyako Island, making me feel that Okinawa’s summer is finally in full swing.

🍺 Nago Summer Festival (Open-Air Market and Beer Festival)

This is a memorable event that my family and I often visited when we lived in Nago. Back then, both my father and mother were still able to walk, so we’d take a leisurely stroll to the harbor, enjoying the bustling food stalls and soaking up the summer atmosphere.

When it was time for the fireworks, people would gather in the square, and the huge fireworks rising almost directly overhead were a spectacular sight. I’ll never forget the sheer power of the fireworks as we looked up at them from directly below, and it was our family tradition to go out for a meal together at a local izakaya after the show.

Date: July 25 (Sat) – 26 (Sun), 2026

Location: Nago Fishing Port

Okinawan summer festivals are a special time when the scents of the season blend with the warmth of the people. Even now that I live in Urasoe, memories of summer in Nago come flooding back at unexpected moments.
