☀️ This Morning’s Sky in Urasoe, Okinawa, and Signs of the Season

This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, the weather is sunny, with a temperature of around 28°C and humidity around 70%, enveloped in the refreshing air typical of early autumn (as of 9:00 a.m.). At this time of year in Okinawa, winds tend to pick up due to typhoons, and our daily rhythm is often influenced by the weather. Today, I’ll be documenting the morning scene in Minatogawa and a day in our caregiving life.

🍞 Morning Routine and How My Mother Is Doing

On this morning of a long weekend, a gentle breeze drifted in as I opened the window, marking a pleasant start to the day. After checking the weather forecast, I started the washing machine, boiled some water, and began preparing breakfast. Today, I made French toast and woke my mother up by calling out, “Time to wake up!”

She got up more easily than usual and headed to the bathroom. When she returned, I asked, “Would you like some tea?” and, unusually, she replied immediately, “Yes.” I handed her a cup of warm tea, and she ate her breakfast slowly, even finishing her mango dessert completely. It seems like one of those days when she’s in good spirits.

👕 Laundry and the Daily Routine of Caregiving

While I was hanging up the laundry, my mom came out to the balcony to help me. Even though she grumbled, “You’re hanging them up wrong,” seeing her carefully hang each pair of socks one by one made me feel like she might be regaining some of her energy. There was a lot of laundry today, so the balcony is completely full. Since it’s a season with good airflow, it should dry quickly.

After that, Mom tagged along to take out the trash and unload the dishwasher. Even though she was grumbling, she helped out, so it seems she’s not feeling too bad. Since this afternoon is Respect for the Aged Day, I’m thinking of taking her out somewhere. First, she’ll rest for about an hour before taking a bath. I hope she has a good day today.

🍂 Things to Watch Out for in Okinawa During the Seasonal Transition

In September in Okinawa, even on sunny days, humidity remains high, and the risk of heatstroke persists. When going out, it’s essential to stay hydrated frequently and protect yourself from the sun. Also, since winds can pick up due to typhoons, be sure to secure laundry properly and take care to prevent items on the balcony from blowing away.

For those providing care, this is also a time when temperature fluctuations can easily cause health issues, so it’s important to manage indoor temperatures and remind care recipients to stay hydrated. I think this is a time when everyone providing care in the same area should be especially vigilant during the seasonal transition.

🌿 Summary

Under clear skies, my mother was feeling well, and it was a peaceful morning in Minatogawa. The seasonal transition is a time when health can be unstable, but I want to take things slowly while cherishing small moments of “feeling good” like today.
