🌅 Morning Scene|A slightly chilly Okinawan morning and my mother’s condition

Good morning.

It’s clear and sunny from the morning, with a north wind blowing at about 3 to 4 meters per second.
Stepping outside, it feels a bit chilly—a distinctly wintery Okinawan air.

☀️ Morning preparations and how Mom is doing

I woke Mom up around 8 this morning.
She grumbled, “I’m sleepy,” “I don’t want to get up,”
but when I said, “Let’s get up once, okay? You can go back to sleep after eating breakfast and taking your medicine,”
she finally came out from under the covers.

Lately, bread has become our regular breakfast.
This is partly because rice prices have risen, so we want to reduce consumption, and partly because it’s easier to prepare.

While warming the bread, I boil water in the kettle.
I make tea for Mom, coffee for myself, and also offer coffee to Dad at the Buddhist altar.
It’s just a matter of pouring hot water, so it’s a big help in reducing the morning workload.

Besides bread, Mom has one small banana and half a cup of fruit yogurt.
After taking her medicine, she watches TV for a while, says “I want to sleep again,” and is resting now.

She gets up 3 or 4 times a night to use the bathroom.
Once she wakes up, she can’t fall back asleep,
and I think, “That’s just how it is when you’re older.”

💊 Migraines and the Tea Habit

My mother used to love coffee,
but after having gallbladder surgery a few years ago, she stopped drinking it.
It’s not so much that she can’t drink it anymore, but more that her body just can’t handle it.

Since then, brewing tea in the morning has become a habit.

On days when the atmospheric pressure is unstable, she’s prone to migraines,
and sometimes she spends the whole day complaining while lying in bed.
This morning, she showed some signs of it again, so I gave her painkillers and let her rest.

The weather is nice today, so I’ve started the washing machine.
It should finish in one cycle, so I probably won’t need to use the laundromat.

If I hang it out now, I should be able to bring it in around 4 or 5 PM.
I’m listening to the radio while waiting for the laundry to finish and writing this blog post.

🌸 Today’s cherry blossom update

The cherry blossoms in the garden are still just “here and there.”
It’s sunny, but the north wind is cold, so they seem to be in a bit of a holding pattern.

🌤️ Closing Thoughts

Today in Okinawa, the morning air was crisp and clear, feeling very winter-like.
It looks like it will be a slow day, keeping an eye on Mom’s condition.
She has daycare this afternoon, so I plan to wake her up again before noon to get her ready.
Until then, both Mom and I should be able to relax a little.
