A Rainy Morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, and a Quiet Kyozuka San-A

☔ This Morning’s Air and Temperature

It’s **drizzling** in Urasoe this morning. The temperature is **around 21°C**, and the forecast calls for it to **gradually drop** throughout the day. It looks like it might feel a bit chilly tonight—the air is so cool, it’s hard to believe it’s Golden Week.

The sky is heavy and overcast, with a feeling that it could start pouring any moment. It was the kind of morning that makes you feel the rainy season is just around the corner.

🧺 A Morning Trip to the Laundromat

Despite the bad weather, I had a lot of laundry today, so I decided on a **laundromat mission**.

I started the washing machine as soon as I woke up and prepared breakfast while it ran. My mother had said last night that she “wanted rice for breakfast,” so I made a simple meal of rice porridge and pickles as a special treat today. After giving her her medicine and running the dishwasher, my mother said, “I’m going to rest in bed and watch TV today,” which put my mind at ease a little.

In the meantime, I loaded the laundry into the car and set off. Unusually, there was a spot available close by in the parking lot, and I could feel the quietness of a rainy day.

☕ Waiting at Kyozuka San-A

About half of the coin laundry machines were in use, so I put in 300 yen and set it for 30 minutes.

To pass the time, I headed to the **Starbucks** next to the entrance. I ordered an iced chai and looked around the shop; it was still quiet, with a lingering sense that they were just getting ready to open. There were few people, and the atmosphere was relaxed, just as you’d expect on a rainy day.

In the hallway, there was an **exhibition of elementary school students’ Mother’s Day portraits**. It was heartwarming to see families happily chatting as they found their children’s drawings—it warmed my heart even on a rainy morning.

🌧 The Hilltop in Kyozuka and the Intensifying Rain

Since Kyozuka is situated on a slight hill, it’s a place where rain often starts falling earlier than elsewhere.

When I returned to the laundromat, about half the dryers were in use, and it looked like it would get even busier by the afternoon.

By the time I was heading home, the rain was so heavy I could barely see ahead. My upper body got completely soaked just walking the short distance from the parking lot to my house, and I finally breathed a sigh of relief the moment I got home and changed my clothes.
