Outpatient Registration at the University of the Ryukyus Hospital
Ryukyu University Hospital is a major hospital in Okinawa Prefecture providing advanced medical care.
Next door is a hospital used by U.S. military personnel, and you can also see people visiting accompanied by interpreters.
This time, based on my own experience as a patient, I’ve compiled this as a “Practical Guide for First-Time Visitors to Ryukyu University Hospital”.
First, the hospital’s location
The hospital is located in Nishi-Futenma. It has its own parking lot, the grounds are spacious, and a covered walkway connects the parking lot to the outpatient building.
If you’re visiting for the first time, it’s reassuring to check the location using a map app beforehand.
Morning flow (number ticket → urine test → blood draw → outpatient clinic)
Ryukyu University Hospital is very systematic, with a set process.
① Park your car → Cross the covered walkway to the outpatient building
Submit your referral letter at the outpatient general reception desk.
② If you have blood tests
Proceed to the blood testing room and hand your file to the nurse standing there.
Then wait in the waiting room for your number to be called.
③ If you don’t have blood tests
Go directly to the outpatient waiting room, complete the procedures at the self-check-in kiosk, and wait.
Estimated waiting times
Ryukyu University Hospital operates on a strict appointment system.
Recently, this has improved, and you are often called within 20 minutes of your appointment time.
Previously, when it was located on the Nishihara Campus, waiting times could exceed an hour even with an appointment, but it has become much smoother now.
Hospital Atmosphere
The building is new, very clean, and has a calm atmosphere.
The staff are polite, giving the impression that even first-time visitors can feel at ease.
My Own Experience: Treatment Reaches a Milestone
It’s been three years since I fell ill.
During this time, I couldn’t work and faced various restrictions in my daily life.
Finally, my treatment has reached a milestone, and I feel a little lighter.
A fresh start at 60.
I hope to gradually build a source of income while searching for work I can manage.
