This week, coinciding with Golden Week, was a period of noticing the changing Okinawan weather, from strong winds to precious moments of clear blue skies. Above all, it was a week of prioritizing my mother’s health while staying busy with household chores and personal maintenance.
The beginning of the week was quite active, as I checked out local holiday events and took my mother to “Sanki Marue,” a local clothing store she had been wanting to visit. However, as the atmospheric pressure changed, there were days when the wind blew hard and my mother felt sluggish. During those times, I found peace in my morning routine—dripping fresh coffee and offering a prayer at my father’s altar, which reminded me of the importance of staying grounded.
On the practical side, the impact of rising prices was felt deeply this week. I was particularly surprised by the soaring cost of eggs, but I’m managing by switching our breakfast to bread and looking forward to the support funds from Urasoe City. I also handled several small tasks, like researching replacement filters for our vacuum cleaner and arranging for a new car battery.
To wrap up the week, I made the most of a rare sunny day by catching up on a mountain of laundry, which left me feeling refreshed. In between chores, I’ve been enjoying a bit of a technical challenge by installing Ubuntu on an old PC. As we move into next week, I hope to continue cherishing these small daily joys while keeping a close eye on my mother’s well-being.
