☁️ This morning’s weather and seasonal atmosphere in Urasoe, Okinawa
This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, we are enveloped in a **damp, humid, overcast sky** typical of the rainy season.
The temperature is around 26–27°C, and humidity is high at nearly 90%.
There are no strong winds like yesterday; instead, a gentle breeze quietly drifts into the room.
During the rainy season in Okinawa, the air feels heavy even without sunlight,
and it’s a season when laundry takes a long time to dry.
Our daily rhythm is easily influenced by the weather,
and we naturally find ourselves spending more time thinking, “How should I spend today?”
Today, I’ll share a record of this Okinawan morning weather and our daily life.
🍚 Morning Time with Mom and Slowly Getting Ready for the Day
This morning, I woke up as usual, turned on the TV, and got ready while watching the news.
Since we didn’t have much rice left, my mother and I decided to have **rice porridge** for breakfast.
I turned off the rice cooker, transferred the remaining rice to a pot, added water, and let it simmer on low heat.
In the meantime, I called out to my mother, “Wake up~,” but
today was one of those days when she just wouldn’t get up,
and she seemed determined to stay in bed, saying, “I’m sleeping~ I’m not getting up.”
After calling out to her a few times, she finally got up 30 minutes later.
She used the restroom, sat down in a chair,
and we sat down for breakfast while I encouraged her, “Eat first, then take your medicine, and you can go back to sleep afterward.”
I mixed a little “dried whitebait,” “oil miso,” and “pickled plum” into her rice porridge,
and she finished eating more smoothly than I expected.
After taking his medicine, he lounged in bed watching TV.
When I asked if he wanted to go to “Ikiiki Health Club,” he replied that he was taking the day off.
It looks like we’ll be taking it easy for the rest of the morning.

🍽️ Reflecting on the “lifespan” of appliances, including the dishwasher we’ve used for years
After breakfast, I ran the dishwasher, washing last night’s dishes all at once.
Our dishwasher is a Panasonic **NP-YTM7 (released in 2014)**.
I looked it up, and it’s been about 12 years since it was manufactured.
With the average lifespan of white goods said to be around 10 years,
we’re reaching the point where I feel like, “Maybe it’s nearing the end…”
Over the past few years, we’ve been on a bit of a home appliance replacement spree,
and major items like the refrigerator, washing machine, and air conditioner have been replaced one after another.
While I know we have to buy them when we need them,
the truth is, I’d rather replace them when I have the financial flexibility to do so.
Even though I understand that appliances don’t last forever,
when the time actually comes, I still can’t help but sigh.

🌧️Yesterday’s Heavy Rain and How to Cope with the Rainy Season in Okinawa
Yesterday in Okinawa, we had typhoon-force winds and heavy rain.
The rain pounded against the balcony glass,
and the weather was so rough I wondered, “Has the typhoon come back?”
The weather was so bad I couldn’t go outside,
but I took out the trash when the rain let up.
It’s such a relief that our apartment building’s trash station is open 24 hours a day.
My mother went to day care in the afternoon.
When she came home, she told me, “The thunder was intense” and “The rain was heavy.”
It looks like it’ll be on and off again today,
a typical day right in the middle of the rainy season.

🌿Tips for Living in Okinawa During the Rainy Season
During the rainy season in Okinawa, humidity is extremely high, so
- – Laundry takes a long time to dry
- – You need to take measures against humidity in your home
- – Be careful with food storage
- – Time outings for breaks in the rain
These lifestyle adjustments are essential.
The area around Urasoe City, in particular, is prone to high humidity due to the sea breeze.
Using a dehumidifier or a fan
can make the indoor environment much more comfortable.
