☁️ This Morning’s Weather in Urasoe, Okinawa

This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, light rain is falling on and off. With temperatures around 25°C and humidity at 87%, the air is thick and muggy—just like the rainy season.

During the rainy season in Okinawa, the rain can intensify or suddenly ease from morning onward, causing significant fluctuations. As a result, daily routines tend to be influenced by the weather. Today, I’ll be documenting the morning weather in Urasoe, Okinawa, and what life is like on a rainy day.

🌧️ The Morning Air and the Start of the Day

I woke up a little earlier than usual this morning. The sky visible from the balcony is covered in dark, heavy clouds, and the humidity is so thick that the distant scenery appears hazy. When I opened the window, cool, rain-dampened air flowed in, and the distinct, damp scent of an Okinawan rainy season morning filled the room.

It rained heavily yesterday afternoon as well—so hard that my windshield wipers couldn’t keep up. With two days’ worth of laundry piling up, I started the washing machine early this morning to get ready to head to the laundromat.

For breakfast, I had rice porridge made with leftover rice from last night. My mother and I enjoyed a quiet breakfast together while watching TV. When the laundry was done and I stepped outside, the rain was alternating between light and heavy, continuing the capricious weather typical of the rainy season.

🚗 The Drive to Kyozuka San-A

As I drove, large raindrops suddenly started falling along the way, and there were spots where even the fastest windshield wipers couldn’t keep up. Traffic was congested toward Naha due to the morning commute, but the road to Kyozuka San-A was relatively smooth, and I arrived earlier than expected.

The second-floor parking lot was quiet, as is typical in the morning, and I was able to park nearby without any trouble. On a rainy morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, there’s a certain calm in the air, and the wet pavement glistens dully.

🧺 How busy the laundromat was

I loaded my laundry into a cart and headed inside. Many specialty shops weren’t open yet, and only a few people were walking around in the quiet atmosphere. It had the kind of calm you’d expect on a rainy morning.

When I got to the laundromat, almost all the dryers were taken—only one was available. I managed to squeeze my laundry in and set the 30-minute timer. The next person had to wait—it was the kind of crowd you’d expect at a laundromat on a rainy day.

☕ A Rainy Morning at Starbucks

While waiting for the dryer, I headed to Starbucks. The shop was quiet, with no students in sight, just a few people working on their laptops. Pleasant jazz played in the background, creating a calm atmosphere perfect for a rainy morning.

On the way, I noticed a long line at the ATM—apparently, it was pension payday. Elderly people were lined up, creating a scene typical of a rainy morning in Kyozuka San-A.

After a while, specialty shops began to open, and housewives started walking through the stores, gradually bringing back the bustle. Even on a rainy day, the mornings in Urasoe, Okinawa, have their own unique rhythm.

🌿 Characteristics of Urasoe, Okinawa During the Rainy Season

During the rainy season in Okinawa, humidity is high, ranging from 80% to 95%, and many days feel heavy and oppressive even when it isn’t raining.

It is also a season when rain clouds develop suddenly, making “squall-like rain”—short bursts of heavy rain—a common occurrence.

Since laundry takes a long time to dry, increased use of coin-operated laundromats is a common sight during this time of year.
