🌅 This Morning’s Sky in Urasoe, Okinawa, and Signs of the Season

This morning in Urasoe, Okinawa, the weather is sunny with occasional clouds. The temperature is around 27°C, and the humidity is 79%, with the air carrying a slight hint of fall. In Okinawa at this time of year, mornings are often refreshing, but sudden showers are common around midday, so daily routines tend to be influenced by the weather. Today, I’ll be documenting the morning scene in Minatogawa and my daily caregiving routine.

👵 Morning Care and My Mother’s Condition

“We’ve had a few days of nice weather in a row—refreshing mornings. It feels like the season is shifting a bit toward fall, and the weather is very comfortable.” “This morning, my mother woke up without raising her voice, went to the bathroom, came back, and smoothly sat down in her chair to start eating.”

Today, my mother woke up quietly, sat down in her chair, and began her breakfast in a calm manner. Following my “don’t let her go back to sleep” strategy, I put the blanket and bedsheet in the washing machine while she was eating. When I said, “You’re sweating, so we’ve got to wash the blanket too,” she seemed to agree and started folding the laundry I’d dried at the laundromat last night.

Today is her day care day. If she stays awake properly in the morning, her activity level during the day will increase, which will help her sleep better at night, so I want to keep her routine as consistent as possible.

✂️ Accompanying Mom to the Hair Salon Yesterday

“It’s more like I’ve decided to take her because she wants to get her hair cut, but she can’t go on her own anymore…”

Yesterday, Mom said she wanted to get her hair cut, and since she’s been having trouble crossing the push-button crosswalk on the national highway within the time limit, I accompanied her to the nearby national chain “Plage.” Even though it was Monday at noon, the shop was packed, with seven or eight customers currently getting their hair done. According to the manager, “Since the Ginowan branch closed, we’re taking on those customers, so it’s going to be busy for a while.”

My mom said, “I’ll get this done first, then we’ll have lunch,” so I left her at the shop while she got her hair done and went home briefly. After picking her up, we had a late lunch and headed home. It was a bit of a hectic day, but it seemed to be a nice change of pace for my mom.

🍃 Tips for Living During This Season

In Okinawa, September is a time when there’s a hint of fall in the mornings and evenings, but the muggy heat lingers during the day. For families providing care,

getting household chores and errands done during the cooler morning hours,

keeping a folding umbrella by the front door in case of sudden rain,

and carefully managing indoor humidity (dehumidifying and ventilating) are key to maintaining a stable daily routine.

Since older adults are particularly sensitive to temperature changes, it’s reassuring to have a light jacket on hand.

🌼 Summary

A refreshing morning in Minatogawa and a peaceful start to my mother’s day. Although our health can fluctuate during seasonal transitions, small daily adjustments help bring order to our lives little by little. Today, too, I hope to take it slow and move at a pace that doesn’t strain me.
