🌅 Morning Scene | A quiet morning with cloudy skies and a gentle breeze

Good morning.

It’s cloudy in Okinawa this morning. The temperature is 23°C, and the forecast calls for a high of 25°C.

There’s hardly any wind, but every now and then a gentle breeze drifts in, and with the balcony and front door open, the air in the room slowly refreshes. Since rain is forecast for after noon, I’m enjoying a peaceful, quiet morning.

☕ A leisurely start to the morning and how Mom is doing

Since I finished the laundry yesterday afternoon, I was able to take it a bit easier this morning.

Mom woke up on her own without me having to wake her. After she used the restroom, I gently encouraged her to sit in her chair. I gave her some tea to help her settle down before starting to prepare breakfast.

I warmed the bread in the air fryer, brewed coffee, and set out a cup for Dad as well. While I prepared my own breakfast, I kept an eye on Mom.

Today she ate half a piece of bread and some yogurt, which was a decent amount.

This time spent watching over her while wondering, “I wonder how she’ll do today,” has become an important morning ritual.

🛒 Afternoon Plans and the Bustling Neighborhood

In the afternoon, depending on how Mom is feeling, we’ll go shopping. We’re out of bananas, so we plan to go to the farmers’ market.

Kyozuka San-A has been packed lately. When I stopped by the laundromat on Saturday, I peeked inside and saw a 25-person wait at Wafutei right at noon. The food court was surely full as well.

I heard there’s an entrance ceremony this week, so it’s a busy time with students around.

🚗 Gas Prices and My Car

My recent worries are rising prices and gas costs.

My low fuel light is on, and I’m almost out of gas, so I plan to fill up today.

Prices in the area are in the 160–170 yen range, and it’s almost scary to check the price every time I fill up.

My current car is 20 years old and has 190,000 km on it. It gets about 9.5 L/100 km, but since it’s been my trusty companion for so long, I’d like to keep driving it a little longer if possible. I drove my previous car for 15 years, so I’m weighing the cost-effectiveness again this time.

🌿 The Changing Seasons in the Garden

Looking out at the garden from the balcony, the cherry trees are completely covered in green leaves.

Amidst them, red berries are starting to appear here and there. Since many of the berries are still green, the little birds haven’t arrived yet, but once they turn bright red, they’ll come to eat almost every day.

They fly away if I step out onto the balcony, so quietly watching them from inside the room has become my daily routine.

Just imagining the little birds pecking at the berries brings a small joy to the quiet of the morning.
